WHAT IS KUGI?

KUGI is an alcoholic seltzer with real juices & herbs: a refreshing low-alcoholic (4.5%) drink that is naturally carbonated by our unique fermentation process. Currently there are 3 flavors: KUGI Elephant (Ginger-Turmeric-Lime), KUGI Bear (Elderflower-Lemon-Rhubarb) and KUGI Gorilla (Cucumber-Lime-Mint). KUGI is available on our website, other e-commerce sites, retail and hospitality. Our current market is the Netherlands.

WHY IS MY KUGI CLOUDY OR WHY IS THERE SEDIMENT IN MY KUGI?

KUGI is a natural product that uses real juices & herbs. We do not use any form of fining agents or other funny stuff to make our drinks clear (in contrast to many other Hard Seltzers). We like to give you a drink that might be a bit cloudy, but we are fully transparent on the ingredients!

WHAT IS THE KUGI COMPANY?

The KUGI Company is an organization that creates delicious and refreshing alcoholic drinks with honest ingredients. The KUGI Company believes in transparency to our customers and partners and we also believe that we can make the world a better place, together. The KUGI Company is an official business partner of WWF. The KUGI Company was founded it early 2020, with years of brewing experience leading up to it. We strive for a production process that is completely sustainable and uses the best ingredients as possible. We do not use any form of sweetening, flavoring (both natural or artificial), coloring and artificial conservatives.

WHAT DOES KUGI STAND FOR?

KUGI stands for Kurkuma, which is also known as Turmeric, and Ginger, which are the two key ingredients of all our drinks. Obviously we also add more delicious and healthy ingredients to our holy drink! Just check the front and the back of the label: that’s it!

WHAT IS “(HARD) SELTZER”?

There are many ways to describe forms of sparkling water and “seltzer” is one of them. Sparkling water can be created by artificially adding carbon dioxide gas (i.e. CO2). On the other hand, naturally sparkling mineral water can come straight out of a well (really!). Our refreshing drink is somewhere in the middle and can be more compared to the brew process of cider. We use the natural process of our fermentation to add just the right amount of bubble to KUGI. The term “Hard Seltzer” means that it is a carbonated water based drink with alcohol. Most hard seltzers are a mix of pure alcohol (or vodka), seltzer water and “natural” flavoring agents. The process to create KUGI varies significantly from this, anf takes a much more natural approach which is better for you and the environment. Read more about this on our blog or nutritional facts.

IS KUGI SUITABLE FOR VEGATARIANS/VEGANS?

Our delicious KUGI drink is 100% vegan. You might ask yourself, why would an alcoholic beverage contain animal products? Well, you will be surprised that many wines, beers and spirits contain casein (a milk protein), albumin (egg whites), gelatin (animal protein) or isinglass (fish bladder protein). These so-called fining agents are used to remove all kinds of goodness but most importantly to remove cloudiness. At the KUGI Company, we give you a 100% natural product. We like to give you a drink that might be a bit cloudy, but we are fully transparent on the ingredients!
